Piikkiö is known for traces of settlement since the Bronze Age. The region was apparently organized as a parish in the 12th–13th centuries. Documents mention Piikkiö in 1331.

Already in the early Middle Ages, the area was marked by the Kuninkaantie highway and the bishop's castle of Kuusisto. Numerous noble estates were established in the fertile lands of south-western Finland. The church has been located in the same place, in the middle of the settlement, for 700 years. The current gray stone church was completed in 1755.
